The paintings in this exhibit were inspired by California Bill AB 1998 which would have placed prohibitions on single-use plastic shopping bags at grocery stores and other retail outlets.  When our representatives debated AB 1998, I wondered if paper and plastic shopping bags might become relics of our time.  Even though the bill did not pass, I think the urgency of this problem will gain momentum since many of these bags end up in our oceans, our landfills, and our landscapes.  I suspect there will be a future day when paper and plastic shopping bags will join other artifacts of this era.  For more information about these paintings, please contact Nel Ivancich, artist.
